After the sun came up this morning, we realized that we had been driving along the Erie Canal. From an engineer's perspective,
the canal is a marvel, connecting Lake Erie to the Hudson River, and being dug in the late 1800s/early 1900s. The photos shown are taken at Herkimer and show a set of control gates on the river side and the lock gates on the canal side.
